Merry Christmas, Sarca!

Christmas came early to the house of Sim…my Christmas Amazon order came in today!

The hubs and I did something a little different and unconventional this year. We decided to allow ourselves to buy our own Christmas presents. We had a price limit imposed, and we each went to town…virtually-speaking – he on eBay, me on my wish list on Amazon. I know it doesn’t sound very romantic to some people, but the hubs wanted retro video games and knows what he wants and where to get them from…and I knew what I wanted, so there. The holidays can be so stressful, and this is the perfect solution to the spousal gift-giving problem. Seriously, it was perfect for us!

And look at all the loot!

Corner Gas Full Tank (Complete Series)
NYPD Blue Seasons 6 and 7 (YES!!)
Graphic novels, New York Drawings and Sleepwalk and Other Stories by Adrian Tomine
As well, I added Quebecois graphic novelist Michel Rabagliati’s Paul Joins the Scouts (from the “Paul Got a Summer Job” series)
Last, but not least, The Tragically Hip’s Fully Completely Limited Edition CD, DVD and booklet! (Drool!)

So good!

One little snafu, though. My copy of New York Drawings arrived damaged, so now I get to exchange it. Looks like I have a bit of a procedure to go through with Amazon. Wish me luck on that adventure!

And on a different note, I would be remiss if I didn’t thank a couple of peeps from my WP email circle that graciously gifted me some great stuff:

Thank you to Brian Z for sending me Ray Lyell’s Desert Winds on CD. It was very nice of him to think of me when he found it. He sent it to me without wanting anything in return. Thank you so much!

Then, a couple of weeks ago I got a package in the mail – full of smurfs!

Aaron from keepsmealive caught wind that I have a smurf figurine collection from the 80s…and found me a whole box full of more smurf figurines! These are Happy Meal Smurfs released to promote the new Smurf movie that came out a few years ago, so they are bigger in size than my vintage smurf figurines. Some of the smurfs Aaron sent are pretty rough looking, and we joked between us how he sent me dirty smurfs, haha! (I’ve since washed some of them). A big thank you to Aaron for this surprising and thoughtful gift.

At any rate, I am officially on my Christmas vacation. I will be doing some traveling up to Sudbury and hopefully get to spend some quality time with my Mom, Step-Dad and the rest of my fam whom I haven’t seen in a year. That said, I am going to take much needed time off to recharge and renew for the New Year.

To my good WP friends: Mike, Aaron, Heavy Metal Overlord, 1537, Deke, Geoff, and Brian – it’s been fun (and hilarious!) getting to know you guys. Best wishes to you and your families this Christmas! Give ‘Er x-mas-style! \m/ \m/

To the gamer guys on YouTube: The Cartridge Bros, Ram Vox, Duke and his kidlets from Retro Nonsense, Dean Lasagna, JRock, Lo, and anyone else I missed…Merry Christmas!! See you on Twitter!

And to my followers and faithful readers of Caught Me Gaming: Janna, Donna P, Jen, Gretchen, Angie, Bradley, Yvonne and anyone else I missed – thanks for your support. Merry Christmas!

See you all soon! Now I’m off to drink some coffee and Baileys!

  1. Oh wow! Looks like you are on a roll so far. That box of Smurfs is REALLY COOL. But of course I’m most excited about that Hip box set. That looks lovely and I hope you get some thorough enjoyment time!

As for Corner Gas, I have a Getting More Tale coming after Xmas about Brent Butt. Great comedian, very underrated.

Merry Christmas Sarca (and drooling is the appropriate reaction to that limited edition set!) – enjoy the family visits & New Years re-charge!

  3. I do not know how I missed this post. I’d blame the holidays except I was still here on the 23rd. I have no idea.

Anyway I am here now and I gotta say I like what you chose! Hip! HIIIPPPP!!! Yes I would buy that for sure. It’s a beaut. I wants it so bad! The CG box set is also great, a nice fell swoop to get yer fix. I know nothing about NYPD Blue. I assume it is about cops? Haha. And graphic novels yes. Yes yes yes. I haven’t read any of those… yet (adds them to list).

I like how you displayed the Smurfs. I’m glad you dug them, it was an impulse thing. Saw them, said SARCA NEEDS THOSE et voila, dirty Smurfs in the mail! I hope they cleaned up OK, the dirty little buggers.

Also, I have many questions about the Smurfs. If Gargamel invented Smurfette to try to capture the Smurfs… 1) where did the Smurfs come from in the first place, I mean, I see no Mama Smurf (or was there mention and she’s no longer there? Is Papa Smurf a widower? Did they have over 90 kids?). And 2) if it was just all dudes in the mushroom (koffkoff) village for that long, and suddenly a babe shows up, are they even gonna care? See what I’m sayin’? And if they DO dig the ladies, they’re lucky they’re already blue, given the state of their… ahem… sorry, this is a family site. I won’t continue that line of inquiry. But still, she’d have been busier than a one-armed paper hanger if suddenly almost 100 dudes were chasing her… Smurfs, man. WTF. Hahahaaaa!

Not sure how I feel about the idea of buying our own presents. On one hand, I get it. Why be saddled with stuff you didn’t want? And it lets you set a budget. On the other hand, the surprise is nice, and it’s the thought that counts, all of that. So I guess we land in the middle, because my lovely wife knows I want musics for Christmas (always) and just asks for a list. So in a way I sort of choose what I get, though the list is long enough to still be somewhat of a surprise come time to open prezzies.

I hope you and yours had a great holiday! Ours was super-busy (I blame the adrenaline-fueled kids, aided and abetted by adrenaline-fueled grandparents. Thank goodness for tons of food, alcohol, and junior hockey on TV)). We’re spending all of this week deprogramming the kids. Our parents are on their own with their withdrawal symptoms.

    Give ‘er!

    1. Ha, finally you’ve caught up! 🙂

We’ve been having a super holiday, visiting family and friends, thanks! Festivities continue too. Not looking forward to when the vacay ends, ’cause then it’s “back to work…”

NYPD Blue is awesome! It is what you think it’s about. And graphic novels – yes!

I am not clear on the history of the Smurfs either – might have known at one time…I think there’s a wiki for that LOL

The gift giving idea turned out great for us. I don’t buy frivolous things for myself most of the time, and this gave me permission. To me there isn’t much difference if K buys me my wish list or if I. His money is my money. I pay the bills…There is a romantic sentimentality that is lost, I suppose. No element of surprise either. This plan doesn’t fly for most folk, but I enjoyed it.
